Why Huntsman Cancer Institute?

What an incredible Mission for the Huntsman Cancer Institute

What an incredible accomplishment this would be for us all!!!

There are basically 2 reasons that I selected The Huntsman Cancer Institute:

I am a Sigma Chi Alumni

In December 2012, Sigma Chi designated the Huntsman Cancer Foundation (HCF) as its sole preferred philanthropic partner. On April 12, 2013, Sigma Chi members presented the millionth dollar raised for cancer research at Huntsman Cancer Institute to Significant Sig and Order of Constantine Sig Jon M. Huntsman, Sr., Pennsylvania 1959.

On June 15, 2015, Sigma Chi made the largest commitment by a men’s fraternity, with an $11 million pledge to HCF. In February 2020, Sigma Chi fulfilled that pledge.

In June 2019, Sigma Chi pledged an additional $20 million to be used for women's cancer screening, treatment, and research.

The Sigma Chi name now graces the Huntsman Cancer Institute campus: Huntsman Cancer Institute hospital is home to the Sigma Chi International Fraternity Sixth Floor.

Last year alone the Sigma Chi Fraternity raised over $4 million.

Cancer has touched us all!!!

I think that it is easy to say that Cancer has an effect on each and every person out there.  We all have lost loved ones or witnessed their fight against this diverse disease.  Personally, I lost my Grandfather without ever knowing him in 1962 to Pancreatic Cancer.  Richard Elmond Cosgrove was a Utah Ute (where the Huntsman Cancer Institute is attached) in his undergraduate days followed by a USC Trojan (where I am alumni) for his Masters.  I then lost my little cousin Colleen Siobbhan Cosgrove in 1981 to Leukemia.  Next, my stepfather Bill Schampeau in 2014 to Mesothelioma.  Also, My Aunt Kathleen Cosgrove Woodard Callahan (Pictured above in blue) in 2019 to MDS (Myelodysplasia).  Sometimes, they were able to be on the winning side getting clear of the disease.  Ultimately, I lost all of the above and more not named here.  Currently, there are several friends and family members (not named for their anonymity) that are quietly fighting the beast in a number of its different forms.

While I am in good health now (a survivor of a Quintuple Bypass in 2015) I pledge to bring as much awareness and fundraising as possible to help in the charge to Cure Cancer in Our Generation!

Hello

I'm Doing the Heavy Lifting, Now it's Your Turn!!!

I have deemed this challenge "May We Raise Millions This Summer?"  I have already completed over 1,000,000 pounds lifted this summer.  Challenge me to lift more OR congratulate me with some sort of honorarium for a task well performed.  I will be passing 90% of all gifts over to go towards the Sigma Chi Pledged amount.

Find a way to give. Every gift helps!!!
